publication number O-01, June 1988, compiled by Robert J. Olson, arranged by Karen Whitmer, from the Dakota County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 74, South St. Paul, Minnesota 55075

web : www.parkbooks.com where the publication can be ordered or contact mbakeman@parkbooks.com

Introduction from the author :

The list of names is compiled from obituaries, personal and family knowledge and the Catholic Church records at New Trier, Vermillion, Hampton and Miesville. I have encompassed the time period of approximately 1854 to 1900, the years of arrival of these families in Dakota County, Minnesota.

Because of conflicting data, dates of arrival to Dakota County are not included in this listing. If enough interest is generated, however, a possible supplement to this issue may include arrival data.

This listing is of foreign-born families of the New Trier area, and a healthy attempt has been made to include them all. I estimate this compilation to be 85% complete as far as surnames are concerned.

I cannot conjecture as to the accuracy of the place names. There were several occurrences of two different place of origin being mentioned, and I have tried to use the most original source available, such as a church record rather than obituary. Where the origin is known, accuracy may be about 80-85% correct.

It is interesting to note that families appear to have arrived in groups from different areas, e.g. Medernach, Luxembourg (...)

If errors are detected, or additions can be made, please contact the Dakota County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 74, South St. Paul, Minnesota 55075.
